NMACD hosts 2008 Children's Water Festivals in Artesia and in Carlsbad for fourth grade students and their teachers. Lessons from the Food, Land & People lessons are presented as well as conservation information stations from the partners. . Amber Hughes coordinates the festivals.
The water festival grants and southeastern NM water festival funding was approved for 2007 by the BOR. The grant and local sponsors make these festivals possible.
NMACD, the NM Affiliate for Project Food, Land and People, formed the NM FLP Coalition: NRCS, NMACDE, State 4-H, NMACD, Ag in the Classroom, NM SWC Districts, Office of the State Engineer, Dairy Producers of NM are coalition members. NMCDE, NRCS & NMACD, held FLP facilitator training for district employees. We have 23 facilitators trained in New Mexico to present the FLP lessons.
